It’s not often I talk about current wrestling on the podcast, but that’s exactly what we’re doing this week. My buddy, Chad Smart of the Positive Cynicism Podcasting Network, joined me to talk about AEW and WWE. It’s a fun discussion that I’ve dubbed ‘random thoughts.’

It’s almost May 19th, and we’re watching WWE Films’ See No Evil to celebrate. The WWE Hall of Famer Kane stars in this horror flick from 2006, which spawned a sequel several years later. On Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, the world lost an amazing wrestler and an even better person in the Mississippi Madman. I first met Madman back in 2010 as a fan. A short time later, I learned more about the man behind the character, Don Jackson.
He touched the lives of many. So this week’s show is dedicated to Madman’s memory. We’ll hear from several people who worked with Madman over the years.
If you’d like to contribute to Madman’s medical and funeral expenses, I encourage you to do so. Click this link to learn more.

Andre the Giant was one of the all-time greats in pro wrestling. His career kind of halted in 1990, and he never received the send-off that I, as a fan, would have liked to have seen.

People who know me, know that right behind my love for pro wrestling is a love for socks. That love became even more pronounced a few years ago when I discovered a company called Odd Sox.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve weeded out all of my ‘normal’ socks and have nothing but usually designed footwear, including many of the WWE Superstars in the Odd Sox collection. This week on the pod, I chat with Justin Brown, the marketing director at Odd Sox Official. Shop their website here and see for yourself why it’s okay to be odd.

Cue the Undertaker. What an amazing 30-year career he’s had in WWE. I can still remember watching him in World Class and WCW as The Punisher and ‘Mean’ Mark Callous respectively.
Then in 1990 at the Survivor Series, a new character was born. I think it would be hard to argue that the Undertaker is the greatest gimmick/character of all-time in wrestling. His loyalty to Vince McMahon and the fans is nothing short of remarkable.
This week on the podcast, my co-host Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton and I discuss the Undertaker’s amazing body of work. This is just the tip of the iceberg as I imagine we’ll have more discussions about the Undertaker throughout the next few months on the various My 1-2-3 Cents shows.

WrestleMania has been a staple not just in pro wrestling but pop culture for 35 years now. I’m proud to say I was around for the first one and have enjoyed the event each year since 1985. That includes the very unique version of WrestleMania 36, held over two nights and in an empty arena.
However, there are some moments in WrestleMania history that fans like to rewrite. That’s the inspiration for an annual tradition I’ve got going here, called WrestleMania Redo. This week Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton of Stride Pro Wrestling and I talk about a couple of WrestleMania matches that we would rebook.

The world of professional wrestling has a variety of memorable characters. One of the most memorable I’ve had the chance to work with is Curly. The man behind the gimmick, which is dedicated to the 3 Stooges is Dan Summers. Unfortunately, Dan is having some major medical issues right now.
That’s where his brothers and sisters in wrestling are stepping in. On Saturday, Dec. 7 Stride Pro Wrestling presents AAPW Ressurection. All American Pro Wrestling was at one time a huge force in southern Illinois and Curly was one of the biggest attractions on the roster.
Now, many stars from AAPW are coming together to wrestle for Stride. The show is happening at the Black Diamond Harley Davidson Warehouse and 100% of the money raised that night will be donated to Curly and his family. Get your tickets here.

It’s been 30 years since the first Halloween Havoc. WCW came up with the concept and it ended up being a successful formula for the company. Did you know Halloween Havoc had a better rating than Starrcade 6 of the 12 years they were around? One year it was a tie and five times Starrcade rated higher.
This week though, we’re focused on that first year and the build-up to the Thunderdome match between Ric Flair and Sting vs. Terry Funk and the Great Muta.

When it comes to great wrestling families, I put the Von Erichs near the top of the list. I grew up in the 80s when Von Erich Mania was running wild. So did my guest co-host this week, Travis Yates (@thetravisyates on Twitter).
We stroll down memory lane and share our thoughts on this iconic family and throw in a few ‘what if’ style scenarios. It’s a great conversation and tribute to one of our all-time favorite families in wrestling.
With another Democratic Debate in the books, @chadsmart and Brandon Cooley are back to discuss their take away from what was said and who didn’t get a say due to controversial qualification standards.
Not only do they discuss the perceived front runners and the most shocking (and disappointing) omissions from the debate stage, they also talk about Ben Gleib’s little known Presidential campaign. Does the media have a duty to report on all candidates or only ones with name brand familiarity?
Does an artist or a company have a moral responsibility regarding the content they release to the mass public? Universal Pictures recently cancelled the release of the motion picture “The Hunt” due to mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
On this episode, @chadsmart and @TheTravisYates discuss their opinions on Universal’s decision and if it’s a serious regret or face saving measure. From there the conversation turns to Hollywood’s fascination and society’s acceptance of violence over language or sexuality.

We also talk about life as an indy wrestler and what’s going on in Stride Pro Wrestling. We have a HUGE event planned on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Rent One Park in Marion. Red gets his rematch for the belt and I’m teaming up with Heath Hatton to get a shot at the tag team titles. Learn more here.

Welcome to the debut of 2 is Greater Than 1, a monthly segment on this podcast. I will be joined on the first Monday of each month by Heath Hatton. The title of the show comes from a line he used during a handicap match against Ryback at Extreme Rules 2012. The two of us are now tag team partners in Stride Pro Wrestling as well.
We have a lot to discuss this month, including the passing of legendary wrestler Harley Race, Stride Pro Wrestling and the upcoming shows for that company.

This week’s episode is also an Ask My 1-2-3 Cents, so thanks for participating.

In the age of easily watching episode after episode of a TV show, binge watching has become an almost preferable method of viewing. On this episode of Positive Cynicism, @chadsmart and Eric Bennett discuss their habits with binge watching as well as the effects watching so much TV at once has on their viewing.
Why do we as a society value athletes and celebrities as role models? Is this idolization warranted or unjust expectation? On this episode of Positive Cynicism, @chadsmart and @TheTravisYates examine how athletes with discipline or criminal records get rewarded with new contracts. How fans still cheer for athletes despite their off field antics and try to determine if fandom trumps individual actions.
Before getting into the main discussion, the hosts discuss the recent death of baseball player Bill Buckner and if it’s disrespectful to bring up his World Series error as a notable aspect of his career.
Dean Ambrose is once again Jon Moxley. Goldust is Dustin Rhodes again. This week my co-host Garrett Turner, aka Dexter Roswel, and l talk about our favorite identity changes in pro wrestling. Roswell himself has had some changes in character; actually using two different personalities for Dexter in Stride Pro Wrestling and Cape Championship Wrestling.

Don’t be too worried about the title. I am ranting, but it’s not a full 20 minutes. Basically, I’m fed up with the ‘fake news’ out there concerning wrestling. I share my views on that and more in this week’s episode.

Last year I introduced listeners to my friend, Lane Austin. At that time he was Stride Pro Wrestling’s senior official. Many times, he was the only referee on hand.
But Lane has had some health issues and that ended in a double organ transplant. For the first time since the surgery, Lane and I sat down and talked about how he’s doing, his love for wrestling and why he enjoys being a ref. Check it out!

Since everyone is speculating on who Kurt Angle’s last opponent should be, I figured I’d jump on board too. This week, Dalton Anthony from Pro Wrestling Unscripted joins me as co-host to discuss our favorite choices. We stuck to current WWE/NXT Superstars. I believe we have solid lists. Check it out and let me know who you would have face Angle in his final match.

Time to jump back into the time machine and examine another One Hit Wonder* from the ’80s. This month @chadsmart and @MikeDeKalb break down the career of English band Scritti Politti. Hitting the U.S. charts in late 1985 with The Perfect Way, Scritti Politti were poised to follow up their British success. Or so it seemed. Unfortunately, future songs wouldn’t fare as well.
Mike gives all the details on the band’s formation and post The Perfect Way career while Chad adds very little to the conversation. After the discussion of Scritti Politti, it’s time for the Picks of the Month. Chad chooses the return album of an early 2000’s pop star while Mike goes with one of the 1990s/2000s alternative heavyweights.

It’s been an interesting start to 2019 since AEW officially announced ‘Double or Nothing.’ The speculation on the future of WWE has run rampant. Hatton has an extensive history in indy wrestling and has worked for WWE too, performing at Extreme Rules in 2012 and doing some other dark matches. He’s also the owner of Stride Pro Wrestling.
Stride returns on March 2 with Strideiversary: the 3 year anniversary of the company. Check out the website for all the details. Sam and I discuss the matches coming that night.
Also over on the My 1-2-3 Cents YouTube channel, I’ve started a new feature called Go Figure Friday. Be sure to check it out and subscribe to the channel.
The 2019 Royal Rumble is over as you’re listening to this week’s episode. But I still wanted to take the time to do a Royal Rumble themed show. So welcome to the first ever Royal Rumble Roulette
Guest co-host Luke Lay and I discuss the 1994 Royal Rumble. How we get to the talking points is the fun part, as we draw numbers just like in the real Rumble match.

My hope is this is the last episode of My 1-2-3 Cents as you’ve known it. 218 shows later and I’m ready to implement some changes. One of those changes includes adding weekly co-hosts. If you’re a wrestling fan and interested in being a co-host sometime, let me know.

This episode is all over the place. But before we get to that, you need to know that this weekend, you can save 20% on your t-shirts at the Jittery Monkey Shop. Get those Nerds United shirts, take a picture, and share them with us.
This week, Mike and Greg talk about Brightburn, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Elizabeth Banks, IMDb, and Mike’s incredibly old sister.
If you need more info than that, you should probably just listen to the show. In fact, you should just listen to the show, period.

Hooch, Hoss, and Jon Damn Johnston are back for the first time in a month and Jon LOVES Nebrasketball. And he doesn’t understand why Husker fans are self-loathing, to the point of self-destructive. It’s not helpful.
This episode, we get live in-game updates and reactions as Jon and Hoss are watching Nebraska vs #6 Michigan State. From outbursts of laughter to yelling at the television, follow along with the boys on the podcast.
The guys also talk about the College Football Playoff championship between Clemson and Alabama. And the notion of paying $165 for a ticket to the AFC Championship intrigues Hoss.
And Jon asks the question on everyone’s mind…does defense still win championships?

For their first episode of 2019, @chadsmart and Eric Bennett start the show discussing Eric’s most anticipated films of 2019. From there, Chad explains how the cost of going to the movies keeps him away from the theater which leads to a bigger discussion regarding the price of extracurricular activies.
I’ve made a lot of friends over the years thanks to professional wrestling. One of them is Ryan Boman. But he’s not your average wrestling fan. Ryan has created a website called The Gorilla Position and is telling the stories of pro wrestling’s storytellers.
From there Ryan and his team developed Pinned.Biz which works to help market the men and women in the world of pro wrestling. I love the concept of both of his websites and we talk all about the idea behind them both in this week’s podcast.
Ryan also shares some thoughts on the landscape of today’s pro wrestling scene; including the creation of All Elite Wrestling. Plus, he was in Nashville recently covering Impact Wrestling’s Homecoming event. Give it a listen and check him out on social media too (@RyanKBoman & @GWPWeb on Twitter).

New year, new Positive Cynicism. On this edition, @chadsmart and Travis (@PopCultIQ) Yates take on a random assortment of topics. The show starts with a tribute to legendary wrestling announcer “Mean” Gene Okerlund. From there, Chad and Travis “spin the wheel to make the deal.” Topics are chosen at random. Neither knows what topics are on the wheel so each spins provides a surprise.
As 2018 comes to a close, @chadsmart and @MikeDeKalb take a break from the normal Wonder Why formula as the month of nostalgia on Positive Cynicism continues. From discussing their first albums and concerts to their memories of Mtv, Chad and Mike stroll down the musical memory lane.
It’s the end of another year and Chad and Kevin are back with the annual Centy Awards. The categories were trimmed down a bit compared to previous years, but the discussion is a meaningful one. Let us know how you will look back on the world of pro wrestling in 2018.
On a separate note, I’d like to thank all of you who have taken time to listen to the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast, read the blog or watch videos on YouTube and Facebook. It means the world to me. I want to wish you all a happy and healthy 2019 and look for more announcements soon!

Nerds United Episode 117: Podception - Jamie Farr in a Hat[ 1:17:42 | 106.71 MB ]Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (635)
So – new editor here on WordPress. I’m nothing if not stuck in my ways, so obviously I hate it. Much like every new layout of Facebook that gets rolled out, it will just take some getting used to. Hopefully it doesn’t take long to figure it out.
This conversation starts with comic books like Y: The Last Man and its upcoming TV adaptation as well as various titles from Valiant Comics. Then we talk about the Mandela Effect, Curious George, and Berenstain Bears.
We talk about popcorn and peanut butter, Nebraska athletics, beer, and Jamie Farr. It’s a gem of a podcast, with special shout outs to Mike’s mom (because she won’t listen). Don’t forget to do some shopping at jitterymonkey.com/shop because this podcast doesn’t pay for itself…and it’d be really nice if it did.
It’s a Christmas miracle. Continuing the @JitteryMonkey holiday crossover event, @kevinhunsperger joins @chadsmart to continue the Positive Cynicism month of nostalgia to discuss how and why they’re fans of professional wrestling. Starting with their earliest memories of wrestling and going through their thoughts on the current state of wrestling, Kevin and Chad touch on favorite moments from the last thirty years as well as things they would like to see change. Along the way the discussion delves into a meeting of the Becky Lynch mutual appreciation society.

Nerds United Episode 116: Very Special Christmas Special 2018[ 1:58:18 | 0.01 MB ]Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (781)
Well, we’re finally here. The weekend before Christmas. And if you’re like me, you are nowhere near ready for the holiday. From decorating to wrapping, yeah – it’s another year of being behind the Eight Ball.
In this episode, Mike and I are joined by our very special guest, Mike’s son Nolan. Nolan brings a youthful perspective that we have long outgrown. But this kid is sharp and quick-witted and not afraid to lay in a few zingers from time to time. And what he did after we finished recording – well, I can’t even explain it.
So enjoy the show. Enjoy your holiday season. and Merry Christmas!
After giving Jon a couple weeks off so he could take photos at the regional and national volleyball tournaments, Fearless Leader is back with Hoss and Hooch, and he brought along Corn Nation’s recruiting correspondent, Rick Cone. We recorded the evening of College Football’s Early Signing Day, and the Husker fax machine was busy!
Who’s N? Who’s still on the fence? Who were the big “gets” of the day, as Scott Frost and Co. concluded their first full year of recruiting?
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Husker Women’s Volleyball team and their outstanding showing in what was supposed to be a “rebuilding year.” Looking forward to even more good things from them in the years to come.
