My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 134: Stride Review & MITB Preview

Stride Pro Wrestling held its second show in the month of June, this time a fundraiser for the YouthBuild program of Jefferson and Marion Counties. More than $2,500 was raised, so thanks to all who attended. That includes Chad Smart who hosts Positive Cynicism on the Jittery Monkey Podcast Network. He’s also been a frequent guest here on My 1-2-3 Cents.

Chad is in town and attended his first Stride Pro Wrestling show. We break down the matches and talk more about indy wrestling in general. We’re also both going to Money in the Bank Sunday and share our thoughts on the matches that have been announced so far.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 123: WrestleMania Preview

Since 2006, Kevin and Chad have made the trek to WrestleMania, except WrestleManias 23, 31 and now 33. The two discuss this year’s card in depth in this week’s episode, which happens to be 123. Disclaimer: Kevin originally tried booking Sean Waltman “The 1-2-3- Kid” on the show, but came up short.

Are you excited about this year’s WrestleMania? What will be the match of the night? Should Goldberg be going in as Universal Champion? And will the Broken Hardys show up anywhere over WrestleMania week(end)?

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 117: He Has the Whole World (Title) in His Hands

By now you know that Bray Wyatt has won the WWE World Heavyweight Title. On the surface, this is great news. But being a sometimes wrestling pessimist, I worry about what this means for the future. Will Bray carry the gold beyond WrestleMania in a few weeks?

This week’s episode is a quick one. And full disclosure, I had to record in the car on the way to work. Sorry for the delay. As always, thanks for listening and sharing the show.

Chad and Kevin are back for an all-new episode of My 1-2-3 Cents. The two are discussing three hot topics in wrestling this week. The upcoming Road Block: End of the Line event, Linda McMahon’s role in the Trump administration and the crossover appeal of WWE Superstars like John Cena, the Rock and Batista.

During the discussion, we try to name who the next big crossover Superstar will be. Who do you think will go from the ring to Hollywood next and have the most success in doing so?

AJ Styles John Cena

SummerSlam 2016 is in the books and probably the best pay per view so far of the year. From the crowning of the new WWE Universal Champion (Finn Balor) to the phenomenal matchup between John Cena and AJ Styles to Charolette regaining the WWE Women’s Championship this event delivered.

Chad and I give some thoughts on the evening, but also look ahead to what’s next for the Superstars involved in the biggest party of the summer.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 82: World’s Strongest Camper

mark henry camp WWE
Mark Henry

If you haven’t checked out Camp WWE on the WWE Network, you’re missing out. I’ll be the first to admit, I’d never watched anything on Adult Swim before so I was leery about watching the show. Much to my surprise I enjoy it.

After tweeting about my enjoyment of the show, one of Camp WWE’s writers and one of the stars liked and commented on my post. I took this as an opportunity to invite them to be on the podcast. Actor Evan Michael Lee (@Evanmichaellee) accepted my invitation. He is the voice of Mark Henry.

We discuss the show and how he landed the role. As you might expect, Lee is also a big wrestling fan. He offers his picks for Money in the Bank too.

If you want to hear more about Money in the Bank, head to the My 1-2-3 Cents Facebook page. There was a live event where Chad and I discuss the upcoming show along with some of our friends.

Don’t forget, there’s a new blog everyday on My 1-2-3 Cents, follow on Twitter and Instagram (@my123cents) and subscribe to the YouTube channel. Also my other project, The Craftbeericans, is on all forms of social media. We’ll soon be doing a review of Broken Skull IPA by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 78: Extreme Rambling

Extreme Rules is just around the corner and Chad and Kevin are talking about the lineup for this year’s event.  The two also share their thoughts on other happenings in the WWE, including some of the recent releases.

Be sure to weigh in and share your thoughts on Extreme Rules.  Will AJ Styles win the gold? Who should be IC champ after the fatal four-way?  And can Natty make Charolette tap out?

WrestleMania 32 is in the books. There’s a new World Heavyweight champion. And the Intercontinental title changed hands. Plus…

The Rock, John Cena, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels all showed up too.

Kevin and Chad returned to WrestleMania after taking a year off. They share thoughts on the big show as well as NXT: Takeover and The Hall of Fame ceremony.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 62: Random Ramblings

wrestlingmokey_final

There’s plenty going on in the world of professional wrestling.  This week, Kevin and Chad talk at length about a few of the things happening.

Awesome Kong has been sent home from an overseas tour with TNA after an incident with Reby Sky in the locker room.  Read more on Breaking Wrestling News.  Could this lead to the return of Kharma to WWE?

The Rock and Lana had quite an exchange backstage at Raw recently.  So much so that WWE issued an apology for some of the things “The Great One” said to the “Ravishing Russian.”  Do comments like that reflect poorly on WWE and their overall treatment of women?

Injuries are plaguing WWE right now. John Cena, Seth Rollins and Cesaro are just a handful of the Superstars out right now.  Kevin and Chad tackle the issue and discuss the fate of Daniel Bryan as well.

Plus, tune in for this week’s My 1-2-3 Cents Road to Wrestlemania contest question.  Send a PRIVATE message on our Facebook page.  Also, I promised a link to Lucha Underground if you don’t have the El Rey Network.  Here it is: Lucha Underground Season 2, Episode 1.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 59: No Cena? No Problem

John Cena Photo courtesy: WWE
Former WWE champion John Cena has undergone successful shoulder surgery.  But as he recovers, it appears he will not be a part of Wrestlemania for the first time in more than a decade.  What kind of impact will his absence have on the WWE’s biggest event of the year?

Kevin and Chad talk about that scenario and look at what the company can do to make the lack of Cena, as well as Seth Rollins and possibly Randy Orton and Cesaro less severe.  The two also talk about the 2016 Royal Rumble and who should walk out the champ as well as speculation that members of the Bullet Club are WWE/NXT bound.

Episode 51: Undertaker & Survivor Series – Now & Then

Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 12.48.42 PM

November 22, 1990 the Undertaker debuted at Survivor Series.  Twenty-five years to the date the Dead Man steps into the ring with his brother Kane to battle two members of the Wyatt Family.  In this episode, Kevin and Chad look back on some of the Undertaker’s best moments and share memories, facts and thoughts over the last two and and half decades.

The discussion also focuses on the November tradition of Survivor Series, which dates back to Thanksgiving 1987.  The two also talk about the tournament to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight champion and put together their own traditional Survivor Series match.  Click here to see their card.

What We Can Learn from #ForceforDaniel

Perhaps you have heard of Daniel Fleetwood. Daniel was a man with a terminal illness, cancer known as spindle cell sarcoma. It attacked his lungs with such ferocity that he recently had just 10% lung functionality. In other words, tumors covered the other 90% of his lungs.

On September 1, 2015, Daniel was told by his doctors that he had two months to live.

Being a lifelong Star Wars fan, Daniel’s dying wish was to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens before he passed. This led to an enormous amount of support on social media in the #ForceforDaniel campaign. Fans around the world, media, and even some Star Wars alum got on board to see Daniel’s final wish granted.

tweeter

J. J. Abrams, Lucasfilm, and Disney made that happen last week. daniel fleetwood Today is November 10. It was on this day we learned that Daniel Fleetwood passed away. He was 32.

Now whether you have heard of the #ForceforDaniel movement or not, I truly believe Daniel’s story holds a greater purpose than just him being able to watch a movie a few weeks ahead of release. Daniel Fleetwood and his wife Ashley are, or should be, reminders that we all have it inside of us to rise up and do great things. Their story inspired a movement comprised of family, friends, and largely strangers coming together out of love.

Love is many things, and being a Catholic, I think of Saint Thomas Aquinas who said “Love is to know, to will, and to do the good of another.”

Daniel worked as a counselor to the mentally impaired. Ashley teaches the visually impaired. Both had to take significant time off of work during the progressive and late stages of Daniel’s battle. These two lived a life of love not just for each other, but for the countless families they assisted.

As their story gained worldwide attention, they taught each of us touched by their story, those of us who were cheering for them to have Daniel’s wish fulfilled, how to love.

See, friends, you don’t need some grandstanding display of love. You don’t have to record some elaborately choreographed marriage proposal.

Love can be as simple as sharing a stranger’s dying wish to see a beloved movie. Love is someone meeting with more than 500 children in the Make A Wish Foundation system (looking at you, John Cena). Love is donating time or money (or both, as long as it comes from the right place) to a community food pantry, soup kitchen, homeless shelter, animal shelter – the list goes on and on.

There are countless ways to love one another. The Fleetwoods gave us a small opportunity to lift them up in love, and when Disney, J.J. Abrams, and the extended Star Wars family took notice and granted Daniel this special screening, we all cheered in exuberance.

When you’re invited into something like this, you truly cheer with the highs and mourn at the lows. One of the last Facebook posts Ashley made before her post about Daniel’s passing, she described hearing his discomfort. I have “borrowed without permission” from her Facebook page enough, but it is heart-wrenching to hear what they had to endure in his final hours. Ashley, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry for the pain you and Daniel had to endure. And I completely agree with your sentiments. “Screw cancer. F it in the a-hole.”

If you have the means, please visit the Fleetwood’s GoFundMe page.

Friends, this isn’t a pitch to get you to spend money. More than anything, I want your take-away from this post to be about love. Smile more often (I say these words in my head as I type them, and my wife will appreciate that I just pronounced the “t” in often, something I bemoan). Greet strangers with warmth and kindness.

We’re coming up on a time of year where we’re supposed to be cheerful. The Christmas season wants you to smile and be friendly. Maybe I’m old, but I think Daniel’s life should remind us that we can be kindhearted all year round. We don’t need commercials and stores to tell us to be friendly. We’re the human race. We have proven time and time again that we have the power within ourselves to be decent to one another.

Make it a part of your everyday routine to be kind. Then you won’t have to try. As Jedi Master Yoda said, “Do or do not. There is no ‘try.'” Let love flow through you like The Force. Yoda also says:

For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.

Rest in peace, Daniel. And May the Force be with You.

Editor’s note: The first two or three minutes is a little hard to hear, but the connection clears up.  Please be patient!

Hell in a Cell 2015 is in the books.  Chad was in the crowd for the event for the second year in a row.  He and Kevin analyze what happened and give some thoughts on what it means for the Road to Wrestlemania, which will kick into high gear at next month’s Survivor Series.  Both agree the overall action was great and the story lines are progressing.
