Greg and Chad’s Power Half Hour Episode 29: Boys of Summer

Continuing the tradition started on Episode 28, Greg and Chad welcome a special guest to the Power Half Hour format. Tom Skull formerly of “Tom and Jim’s Top 5” and current co-host of the “Skullbuster Wrestlecast” podcast joins the show to discuss one of his favorite topics, baseball. With the sports world trying to get back to normal after several months of shutdown due to Covid-19, we’ve invited Tom on to discuss some of his favorite baseball memories.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 291: Wrestling Under the Influence

Trainwreck. That’s probably the best way to describe 2020 so far. But it’s also the brew I’m drinking this week for Wrestling Under the Influence. The full name is 420 Strain Trainwreck by SweetWater Brewing Company in Atlanta.

Besides tasting the beer, I go on several wrestling-related tangents this week. There’s no specific focus which may or may not be a good thing. For that, I need to hear from YOU!

I’d love to know what you think about this show. Please follow My 1-2-3 Cents on social media: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (@my123cents). You can also subscribe to the My 1-2-3 Cents blog and YouTube channel. And follow the Jittery Monkey Facebook page for updates too. Thanks!

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 287: Wrestling Under the Influence

Quarantine has inspired new ideas for me and I tried one of them on this week’s podcast. My original plans fell through but I think something will work out for it soon, so I won’t reveal yet.

This week though, I’m joined by four members of the Stride Pro Wrestling roster; Jay Spade, Dalton Anthony, Lane Austin and Bud Gallows. We held a Zoom session where we talked about AEW, WWE and of course Stride.

I enjoyed a couple of Tail Chaser IPAs by Sleepy Dog Brewing as Dalton had Abita’s Strawberry Lager.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 283: Wrestling Under the Influence

Pity Party, table for one. That is how this podcast may sound to some. However, that is not my intent. I had big plans for this week’s show since it falls on 4/20. You can read between the lines on who I wanted as my guest…

That being said, my attempts to get Rob Van Dam on the show turned into another failed experiment. So that got my brain churning and I thought, why not review a beer in my fridge called Mad Scientist Milkshake IPA. It’s from the Experimental Series by Witchita Brewing Company. You can visit their website here.

So this week you’ll hear me kinda rant and complain about the guests who I’d always wanted but never got. I also review the beer and share some thoughts on other aspects of pro wrestling.

Thanks!

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 248: Wrestling Under the Influence

Give me a hell ya, because it’s time for another edition of Wrestling Under the Influence. This month former Stride Pro Wrestling Champion Red Daniels and I try Stone Brewing Company’s Stone IPA and discuss the career of ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.

We also talk about life as an indy wrestler and what’s going on in Stride Pro Wrestling. We have a HUGE event planned on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Rent One Park in Marion. Red gets his rematch for the belt and I’m teaming up with Heath Hatton to get a shot at the tag team titles. Learn more here.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 239: Wrestling Under the Influence ‘Rowdy & Proud’

It’s hard to argue the greatness of ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper. This week we raise a can of Rowdy & Proud by Three Taverns Craft Brewery to Hot Rod himself. I’m joined by Stride Pro Wrestling star Ax Allwardt. We discuss the beer and Piper. We throw in some comments about today’s wrestling scene and how it compares to the 80s.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 230: Brett ‘the Hipman’ Hop

Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart is one of the most iconic pro wrestlers in the history of the business. He was recently immortalized again in the WWE Hall of Fame with his partner Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.

This week on the podcast, my co-host Roger Matheus and I review a beer made in Hart’s honor. It’s called Brett ‘The Hipman’ Hop. Against the Grain Brewery & Smokehouse in Louisville, Kentucky makes this beer. They sent me a bottle to try just for the show.

Nerds United Episode 117: Podception – Jamie Farr in a Hat

So – new editor here on WordPress. I’m nothing if not stuck in my ways, so obviously I hate it. Much like every new layout of Facebook that gets rolled out, it will just take some getting used to. Hopefully it doesn’t take long to figure it out.

In this episode, I do a run-in on the ABCD-Bags Podcast.

via GIPHY

This conversation starts with comic books like Y: The Last Man and its upcoming TV adaptation as well as various titles from Valiant Comics. Then we talk about the Mandela Effect, Curious George, and Berenstain Bears.

We talk about popcorn and peanut butter, Nebraska athletics, beer, and Jamie Farr. It’s a gem of a podcast, with special shout outs to Mike’s mom (because she won’t listen). Don’t forget to do some shopping at jitterymonkey.com/shop because this podcast doesn’t pay for itself…and it’d be really nice if it did.

Tis the season for drinking, so Chad Smart (host of Positive Cynicism) and I busted open 4 Elf Winter Warmer Spiced Ale by Dark Horse Brewery. While enjoying this festive beer we chat about Christmas gimmicks, movies and angles related to the world of pro wrestling.

Nerds United Episode 111: Hanging Out at the 4204 Brewery

You read that right, true believers! In this very special “Field Trip Edition” of the podcast, Greg and Mike are hanging out and recording from the 4204 Main Street Brewing Company Taphouse/Production Brewery. In other words, if you’re in Illinois, Missouri, or Kansas and you see a six-pack of a delicious 4204 brew, it was brewed right behind where we were sitting.

We were very fortunate that the good people at the brewery, from the owners to the Head Brewer Keith to Deja the Taphouse Manager and provider of fine ales and lagers, opened their doors to us. Because we like beer. And they have beer. It’s a perfect symbiotic relationship.

So the first thirty or so minutes of the podcast, we were actually streaming and recording live on Facebook. Three people. Two microphones. We’re podcasters, not math geniuses. Anyway, that first half hour was spent with Keith learning all about the beer making process and also trying different beers. You’ll notice in the featured photo that Greg finished his beers. He ended up bringing two growlers home, including the Tickle for his wife.

After we let Keith get back to work, Mike and Greg talk about some comic book topics, including Return of Wolverine, Heroes in Crisis, and Cry Havoc.

There’s a giveaway we’re working on. It is for The Comic Book Story of Beer. Fitting, right? Let’s do this. If you read this, share the post on Facebook. I’ll enter all who do into a random drawing and the winner will get the graphic novel delivered to their front door!

That’s pretty much it. Enjoy the show, and thank you again to Keith, Deja, and everyone who helped make our trip to 4204 Brewery possible!

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 196: Wrestling Under the Influence ‘Rebel’

Oh Hell Yeah

When Nichole Pate was 14 years old she had no idea what a rebel she’d turn out to be. She simply went to school on a Monday morning wearing an Austin 3:16 t-shirt in 1998. She was sent home as a result. What happened next is pretty awesome.

Nichole and I have a Rebel IPA by Sam Adams as she shares her story. Check out the podcast to find out more… And be sure to visit the @my123cents on Instagram for more pics.

Five Heart Podcast Episode 65: Things Get Weird

This episode is brought to you by Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (until Ty tells me where I can find Blue Blood Brewing Company products in my area).

In this episode, we talk about the departure of Patrick O’Brien from the Husker football team after he asked for and was granted a release from his scholarship. That really throws the QB picture into chaos as we had him pegged as the season-opening starter. So where does that leave the QB position and players like Tristan Gebbia, Adrian Martinez, and, dare we say, Noah Vedral?

Also, plenty of talk this week on the receiving corps, what could be a bright spot for the Husker offense. Stanley Morgan returns and could easily be Nebraska’s first 1,000-yard receiver. But JD Spielman is a returning freshman All-American, and Tyjon Lindsey is a dynamic playmaker and both figure to be key pieces to the Nebraska offensive unit.

And we’re trying to get Hoss a girlfriend, gosh darnit! So if you like long walks on the beach, a glass of moscato once a year, dogs, and a fella who can squat over 300 pounds, reach out via the social media access points below.

Thanks to Tom and Jim’s Top 5 for recommending Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale. And to the good folks of Nebraska City for their contribution to trees and clean air and…arbor.

Enjoy the show!

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 175: Wrestling Under the Influence ‘Death by Coconut’

Wrestling Under the Influence

When I was in college I dreamed of attending WrestleMania X and having a beer. I picked ten specifically because that was the year I turned 21. So wrestling and beer have been a part of me for decades now. They’re a great tag team and now I’m finally kicking off a new segment on the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast.

Wrestling Under the Influence (name credit to Dennis Wyatt) will include a conversation between me and a fellow wrestling fan. We’ll share a beer and our memories on a point in wrestling that we tie into the beverage selected. On this first installment, it is Death by Coconut by Oskar Blues Brewery. Since coconut is in the name, I had to dedicate the beer to ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka.

My fellow Craftbeerican and beginner pro wrestling fan, Tom Harness joins me for this conversation. We review the beer and talk about one of the most memorable wrestling angles from the 1980s.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 172: ManiaCrawl 2018

Cheers to ManiaCrawl!

WrestleMania is just weeks away, but before the Superstars of the WWE take to the Superdome in New Orleans, fans will gather for the fifth annual ManiaCrawl. The event is a bar crawl and fundraiser for Connor’s Cure. Connor was the little boy who died a few years ago after a valiant battle with cancer.

WWE created the foundation to help other children going through cancer. The folks behind ManiaCrawl are not affiliated with WWE but do work with Connor’s Cure. The events have raised thousands of dollars so far. If you’re in New Orleans for Mania, consider stopping by. If you’re not going to be there this year, you can still help here.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 153: Wrestling with Craft Beer

Beer and Bodyslams

Beer and wrestling seemingly go hand and hand. I had a big vision for this week’s episode. I attended the Big Muddy Monster Brew Fest in Murphysboro, Illinois with some friends over the weekend. Since I didn’t have a guest I thought it would be fun to find different craft beers and tie them in with wrestling. The first few reviews recorded just fine, but somewhere along the way, the other recordings stopped. I’m disappointed this happened, but I do believe I still have some good content in this episode. I’ll plan better for next year, as I do like the idea of pairing wrestlers with beer.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 120: ManiaCrawl

It’s WrestleMania season and that means it’s time for ManiaCrawl. The event made its debut hours before WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey. The concept is simple, wrestling fans in town for WrestleMania or SummerSlam meet at the designated bars and enjoy each others company. ManiaCrawl is also a fundraiser for Connor’s Cure.

But here’s the best part, even if you can’t be there in person, you can help the cause. Donations can be made online. If you are in Orlando for WrestleMania, I highly recommend going. We went last year in Dallas and had a blast. I’ll be back for New Orleans.

Keep an eye on the My 1-2-3 Cents blog and social media sites. I’ll have thoughts on FastLane posted there this week, along with everything else going on in the world of professional wrestling.

Nerds United Episode 70 – Playing Catch Up

I put my son to bed and knocked out a home show before calling it a night. In Episode 70, I start off talking highly about Ghostbusters: Answer the Call.

In fact, I have a lot of positives about many movies that are otherwise crapped upon.

xmen-apocalypse-ivan
The unfinished product and the comparison everyone drew rather quickly. Admit it…you did it too.

And I bring back the debate of Batman v Superman and Captain America Civil War. Not saying one is better than the other, but rather how there is an overlooked similarity and how one gets a pass. (Hint: “He killed my mom.”)

It’s a good time to be a nerd with some great movies coming out and plenty to watch on TV (I didn’t even address The Walking Dead…dammit). My question to you is this: Are you currently reading any comics? If so, sound off in the comments here or on Facebook. I’d love to know what you’re reading and what you think about it. I’ll even read the comments on the next episode (if I remember).

Thanks for checking out the show and I’d really appreciate if you told your nerdy friends about it. Let’s get this thing growing again!

Now enjoy the show.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 91: Cheers to ManiaCrawl

ManiaCrawl2
A toast to ManiaCrawl

A few years ago a couple of wrestling fans came up with a way to unit fans before two of the WWE’s biggest events of the year, WrestleMania and SummerSlam. ManiaCrawl is held the afternoon of those events now at a bar in the host city. Hundreds of fans participate and help raise money for Connor’s Cure.

Prior to SummerSlam, KBH Bierhall in Brooklyn is hosting ManiaCrawl. Bill Apter will be there too, signing copies of his new book. Admission is free, but donations will be collected at the event. To date, ManiaCrawl has raised about $2,700.

Chad and I stopped by ManiaCrawl in Dallas earlier this year. I got in a quick episode of Craftbeericans while I was there.

You can find ManiaCrawl on social media, be sure to follow and like their pages. You can buy t-shirts and make donations to Connor’s Cure if you aren’t able to make it to the bar.

Nerds United Episode 61: Magicians Must Die, But Will They?

A record-breaking third appearance for comic artist Jay Peteranetz, artist of the Magicians Must Die series.

The box art for Magicians Must Die #5
The box art for Magicians Must Die #5

Join us as we discuss the very successful Kickstarter campaign for Magicians Must Die #5, the finale of the world’s only comic book printed on playing cards. We also talk about the reception of this innovative medium of storytelling.

Learn what helps make a successful Kickstarter campaign, find out where Jay will be this Comic Con season, and learn a bit more about the mastermind behind Magicians Must Die, De’Vo (what we’re at liberty to discuss, anyway).

Magicians Must Die #1, opened up and displayed on my kitchen table.
Magicians Must Die #1, opened up and displayed on my kitchen table.

Magicians Must Die has already reached its goal on Kickstarter, but you have two weeks to help them attain their stretch goals, and we’ll learn from Jay what those entail.

It’s 2016, but we recorded at my house, so naturally it sounds like the 1950’s. If you can overlook that, you will really enjoy this new episode with three-time guest and my friend, Jay Peteranetz.

And Ty, if you’re reading this, yes, we do give a shout out to Blue Blood Brewing Company in Lincoln, NE.

Nerds United Episode 53: The Cursed Studio

Well, for about fifteen-and-a-half minutes, the sound quality was what I wanted it to be. And then – right into the tank. Damn. Sorry everyone.

So in Episode 53, I talk about some recommended Doctor Strange reading, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, and Marvel 1602. And I continue my series of Regrettable Superheroes.

I also discuss some of the television shows and movies going on, like the Flash, Arrow, and Thor: Ragnarok.

Also – i just picked up the following book and am really looking forward to having time to read it.

Nerds United Episode 51: JPeteranetz Returns

Episode 51 and I’m back talking with my friend Jay Peteranetz (that’s his Twitter name in the title…so follow him if you don’t already).

Jay has been busy. He’s taking up a second job as an art teacher at another school in Colorado. But he has been to Seattle for the Emerald City Con. he was the featured artist at this year’s Denver Comic Con (his badges were pretty sweet). So we talk about Captain Colorado, Magicians Must Die (fifth issue expected in early 2016), car brakes, and beer. Because it’s a Sunday afternoon, that’s why!

We also jump into the new segment exploring some regrettable heroes. And our first one: The Bouncer.

Seen here, about to bounce. Because that's all he does.
Seen here, about to bounce. Because that’s all he does.

And we also touch on some serious topics affecting us both…Jay and his wife finalizing an adoption, and me and my wife announcing news of our own:

Plus there’s a giveaway for the autographed set of Issues 1-4 of Magicians Must Die, autographed by Jay. Listen to the show to learn how to win. And here’s a shortcut to the site.

So follow Jay on Twitter (@jpeteranetz), rate this show on iTunes (Love it or hate it – at least let me know how I’m doing), and share this masterpiece with your friends and fellow nerds!

Nerds United Episode 33: Comics for Beginners 1

comics 4 beginners featured

It is finally here! Comics for Beginners is no joke – but there are jokes inside…laughter…tears, and whining from my dog Lucky.

And we have winners and giveaways. My wife did the drawing out of my Green Lantern hat. IT’S A REAL THING! And I explain the mess on the hat in the episode.

Great questions, great answers, except by me. Listen to the end for just a weeeeeeee bit of bonus Nerds United.
