It’s not often I talk about current wrestling on the podcast, but that’s exactly what we’re doing this week. My buddy, Chad Smart of the Positive Cynicism Podcasting Network, joined me to talk about AEW and WWE. It’s a fun discussion that I’ve dubbed ‘random thoughts.’

Where are you on the dirt sheets of pro wrestling? Some people love them; others hate them. I’d say I’m in the middle but tend to be more annoyed/irritated by them than a consumer. I talk more about that and the original intentions for the My 1-2-3 Cents brand.

March 5, 2016, is the date of the first Stride Pro Wrestling show. The main event that night featured a fatal four-way to crown the first-ever champion. Ax Allwardt beat three others to do just that, Heath Hatton, Tony Flood, and Frank Wyatt.
Now, the company is preparing for the fifth anniversary of that event, and we like to call it Strideiversary. It’s set for Saturday, March 13, at the Stride Building at 1130 N. Divison Street in Carterville.

On Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, the world lost an amazing wrestler and an even better person in the Mississippi Madman. I first met Madman back in 2010 as a fan. A short time later, I learned more about the man behind the character, Don Jackson.
He touched the lives of many. So this week’s show is dedicated to Madman’s memory. We’ll hear from several people who worked with Madman over the years.
If you’d like to contribute to Madman’s medical and funeral expenses, I encourage you to do so. Click this link to learn more.

World Class Championship Wrestling and the Von Erich family have a lot to do with my early fandom. Even when cousin Lance arrived on the scene to battle side-by-side with Kerry, Kevin, and Mike, I was all in.
There’s a fascinating story behind the character ‘Lance Von Erich,’ and I got the scoop from the co-author of the new book Lance By Chance: Wrestling as a Von Erich. Vinny Berry teamed up with Lance Vaughn for this book, which you can order right here.

It’s Survivor Series season and this week Chad Smart from the Positive Cynicism Podcasting Network joins me to talk more about the annual event. But we also assemble our own teams. Each of us came up with a team of five past survivors from Survivor Series and it’s up to you to pick who has the best team. Let us know in the comments!

Did you know Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton and I have more in common than holding the Stride Pro Wrestling tag team championships? We both separately had tryouts for TNA/Impact Wrestling. So this week, we recall our experiences.
We also discuss the fate of Stride. We are struggling with the mandates coming as a result of COVID-19. Rent must still be paid on our building. If you’re interested in helping, please let us know.

Halloween Havoc is a pay-per-view brand that got its start back in 1989. For 12 years, it was one of WCW’s biggest events, some years trumping Starrcade.
Now, 20 years after the last WCW Halloween Havoc, WWE brings back the concept with NXT. This week, Chad Smart from the Positive Cynicism Podcasting Network joins me to talk more about our favorite moments from this banner event.

Andre the Giant was one of the all-time greats in pro wrestling. His career kind of halted in 1990, and he never received the send-off that I, as a fan, would have liked to have seen.
So this week, I’m rebooking Andre’s final two years in wrestling and doing it with a Yuengling Hershey’s Chocolate Porter by my side. Special thanks to Tom Harness for the beer.

On Saturday, September 14, 1985, Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n Wrestling made its debut on CBS. While the cartoon may have been shortlived, it did create plenty of great memories for this old wrestling fan.

One of my favorite things about Stride Pro Wrestling is the opportunities being given to young talent. B-Rad is one of the trainees at the Stride Pro Wrestling School and is currently the company’s Legacy Champion.

COVID-19 has put a damper on a lot of things but it has also provided us with new opportunities like WWE’s ThunderDome. The technology gives fans watching a home the live crowd experience that’s been missing since quarantine started in the spring.
I tried getting in on the action for SummerSlam and even after getting an email telling me I was in, I was in fact not. However, my guest co-host this week was in attendance for the biggest party of the summer. Jeff Holtke shares his experiences with ThunderDome.

People who know me, know that right behind my love for pro wrestling is a love for socks. That love became even more pronounced a few years ago when I discovered a company called Odd Sox.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve weeded out all of my ‘normal’ socks and have nothing but usually designed footwear, including many of the WWE Superstars in the Odd Sox collection. This week on the pod, I chat with Justin Brown, the marketing director at Odd Sox Official. Shop their website here and see for yourself why it’s okay to be odd.

Summertime in the 1980s meant one thing for me as a wrestling fan, The Great American Bash. The first incarnation of this legendary event happened 35 years ago this month (July 6, 1985).
I have fond memories reading about these shows and later renting them on VHS from the local video store weeks after they aired on closed-circuit or pay-per-view television. The biggest thing to come out of the GAB is the first-ever War Games match.
The brand is alive and well today with WWE using it over the last couple of weeks on NXT. It makes me happy to relive the nostalgia. But what do you think about the history and the legacy of the Great American Bash?

Cue the Undertaker. What an amazing 30-year career he’s had in WWE. I can still remember watching him in World Class and WCW as The Punisher and ‘Mean’ Mark Callous respectively.
Then in 1990 at the Survivor Series, a new character was born. I think it would be hard to argue that the Undertaker is the greatest gimmick/character of all-time in wrestling. His loyalty to Vince McMahon and the fans is nothing short of remarkable.
This week on the podcast, my co-host Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton and I discuss the Undertaker’s amazing body of work. This is just the tip of the iceberg as I imagine we’ll have more discussions about the Undertaker throughout the next few months on the various My 1-2-3 Cents shows.

Full disclosure: I recorded this podcast more than a week ago and just as the sh!t was hitting the fan with allegations against wrestlers, promoters and companies. So you’re not going to hear much about that on this show.

Trainwreck. That’s probably the best way to describe 2020 so far. But it’s also the brew I’m drinking this week for Wrestling Under the Influence. The full name is 420 Strain Trainwreck by SweetWater Brewing Company in Atlanta.

Full disclosure for this week’s show. I had two different guests lined up but unfortunately, things fell through at the last minute with each. So that means I had to call an audible and do something I had planned for later in the month while I’m on vacation.
Almost one year ago, I made a career change and left the world of broadcast news after 22 years. I’ve already done a show with some clips of wrestling interviews I conducted as a news anchor. Today, in an effort to spread some positivity, I’m sharing the Cameo videos my friends sent me after I made the career change.
Instead of hearing me talk about a random topic for 30 or more minutes, I decided to go this route. It’s an ego boost for me for sure. But it’s also positive content to insert into a world that right now is filled with hate and negativity.

All of our lives have changed since the quarantine. Pro wrestling shows have a much different look these days. There are rumblings that once we return to ‘normal’ life, the way WWE presents its product could change forever.

May 27, 1996 is a day that will live in wrestling infamy. It’s the day Scott Hall, known by fans at the time as Razor Ramon, showed up on WCW Nitro. It was significant because Hall had been with WWF for four years and showing up on the competition’s program and declaring war with them made it look like WWF had sent him.
We’d later learn this was the seed planting fo the nWo and one of the greatest angles in the history of wrestling. My co-host Chad Smart and I dissect the period leading up to Hall’s jump and do some ‘what if’ scenarios along the way.

Quarantine has inspired new ideas for me and I tried one of them on this week’s podcast. My original plans fell through but I think something will work out for it soon, so I won’t reveal yet.
This week though, I’m joined by four members of the Stride Pro Wrestling roster; Jay Spade, Dalton Anthony, Lane Austin and Bud Gallows. We held a Zoom session where we talked about AEW, WWE and of course Stride.
I enjoyed a couple of Tail Chaser IPAs by Sleepy Dog Brewing as Dalton had Abita’s Strawberry Lager.

We watched a show on YouTube (watch here) over Christmas break. Then in March, we did a watch along here on the podcast. That show opened the door to ‘meeting’ one of the company’s top stars, Darwin Finch.

We’re just a couple weeks away from the 35 year anniversary of the very first Saturday Night’s Main Event. The show debuted May 11, 1985, from the Nassau County Coliseum.
So, I’ve turned to Jason Skull of the Skullbuster WrestleCast to take a trip down memory lane and chat more about that first episode. From Hulk Hogan to Roddy Piper to Wendi Richter, the show was stacked.

Pity Party, table for one. That is how this podcast may sound to some. However, that is not my intent. I had big plans for this week’s show since it falls on 4/20. You can read between the lines on who I wanted as my guest…
That being said, my attempts to get Rob Van Dam on the show turned into another failed experiment. So that got my brain churning and I thought, why not review a beer in my fridge called Mad Scientist Milkshake IPA. It’s from the Experimental Series by Witchita Brewing Company. You can visit their website here.
So this week you’ll hear me kinda rant and complain about the guests who I’d always wanted but never got. I also review the beer and share some thoughts on other aspects of pro wrestling.

Chris Benoit’s last 48 hours on Earth are some of the most polarizing times in the world of professional wrestling. However, Benoit had a huge impact on fans and other wrestlers throughout the years. This week, I’m joined by Stride Pro Wrestling’s Shane Rich. He shares a unique experience with us about meeting Benoit.
We are not glorifying the tragedies or making light of them in any way. We are just two pro wrestling (and Chris Benoit) fans remembering a different time in our business.

WrestleMania has been a staple not just in pro wrestling but pop culture for 35 years now. I’m proud to say I was around for the first one and have enjoyed the event each year since 1985. That includes the very unique version of WrestleMania 36, held over two nights and in an empty arena.
However, there are some moments in WrestleMania history that fans like to rewrite. That’s the inspiration for an annual tradition I’ve got going here, called WrestleMania Redo. This week Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton of Stride Pro Wrestling and I talk about a couple of WrestleMania matches that we would rebook.
Let us know what you think of the show and what matches from WrestleManias past you’d rework.

My buddy Chad Smart from the Positive Cyncisism Podcasting Network has introduced me to all sorts of different pro wrestling companies. In 2004 when I met him, he was ordering the weekly TNA pay-per-views. Then came Chikara Pro and now we’re watching a company out of southern California; Wrestling Pro Wrestling.
This is a very unique independent company, to say the least. Characters include the Fromage Horsemen (all characters based off cheeses), Darwin Finch and ‘Gentleman’ Jervis Cottonbelly. You can check out their YouTube channel here. Pull up the March 5 show; WPW Presents Tony Tickles’ Invasion Featuring the Sneaky Snakes and watch along with us. We also sprinkle in thoughts on other wrestling companies along the way.

I’ve known Dalton Anthony for a few years now, first hearing him on the Podzilla 1985 Pro Wrestling Unscripted podcast. Then he and some of his co-hosts came to a Stride Pro Wrestling show as fans. But it wasn’t long before that fandom turned into Dalton stepping through the ropes.
He’s been wrestling in both Stride and Cape Championship Wrestling for more than a year and continues to improve. In fact, he’s now a co-holder of the Stride Pro Wrestling Tag Team Titles with Jay Spade. Expect big things from the Wrestling Buddies in the weeks and months to come.

Give me a hell yeah! For the first time, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s Broken Skull IPA is now available in Kentucky. That’s only an hour’s drive from my home in southern Illinois, so this week we are Wrestling Under the Influence with this iconic beverage on 3:16 Day. It worked out perfectly!
Red Daniels, the NEEEWWWWW Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion is my guest co-host this week. We rate the beer and also talk more about Austin in terms of ‘what-ifs’. Check it out and let us know what you think of the episode.
Stride Pro Wrestling returns to the Stride Arena (1130 N. Division St.) in Carterville, Illinois on Saturday, April 11. Bell time is 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for kids and $10 for adults. Be a part of the action!

‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith will go down as one of the all-time greats of professional wrestling. He and Dynamite Kid are still my favorite tag team of all-time. The Bulldog happens to be the all-time favorite of my co-host this week, Bo Sawyer.
Bo and I discuss our fandom for DBS as well as some of Bo’s professional wrestling career. He is the Stride Pro Wrestling No Limits Champion (and defends the title Saturday, March 14 against Dexter Roswell at Strideiversary). He’s also the TSW Heavyweight Champion. I apologize in advance as I had to call an audible this week. My scheduled co-host couldn’t be on the show and it was late in the game, so I decided to record a quick show alone.
Since it is Wrestling with the 80s, I decided to follow up on a show Greg Mehochko and Chad Smart recently did on Greg & Chad’s Power Half Hour. When did you know wrestling wasn’t ‘legit’?

This month’s Wrestling Under the Influence is a fun one for me. I get the chance to share a beer with my dad and talk all about Wrestling at the Chase. My dad (and I) grew up in St. Louis, so Wrestling at the Chase was a staple for him as a teenager and I watched early on in my fandom before the show went off the air.
We also drink Love Gun by Heavy Riff Brewing in St. Louis. My dad doesn’t drink much outside of the Busch family so introducing him to new craft beers has been fun.

Since Valentine’s Day is happening this week, I decided to do a couples episode of the podcast. So my usual co-host for 2 is Greater Than 1, Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton and his fiancee Rachel joined my wife, Lisa, and I for this week’s show. We talk about fandom and how important it is for the family to support indy wrestling too.

What a year 2020 has already been for my co-host Tyler Heath Hatton. He appeared as a medical staff member on Monday Night Raw on Jan. 13, 2020. He assisted both R-Truth and Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
This isn’t Tyler’s first dabble with WWE. We talked all about that in the previous episode of ‘Two is Greater Than 1’. Listen to the archives. We also talk about how his WWE experiences impact his role with Stride Pro Wrestling.

As 2019 comes to a close it’s time once again to reflect on the year in wrestling. And what a year it was. Admittedly it’s hard to keep up with it all, but Chad Smart (from the PCPN) and I discuss the year as well as the past decade.

Oh, the 80s. What a magical decade. The rise of pro wrestling started then and the world was introduced to WWF Superstars they could hold in their hand. The LJN collection is by far my favorite. It’s Christmas time and what better way to celebrate the holidays than with an ice-cold beer? That’s exactly what we’re doing on this week’s Wrestling Under the Influence. Former Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Red Daniels and I drink Abita’s Christmas Ale and swap stories about Mick Foley.
The former hardcore Superstar is now known as Saint Mick to many. We talk about Foley’s transition from a wrestling icon to a Christmas icon.

This week’s podcast is important to me for a couple of reasons. First, it’s the five year anniversary of My 1-2-3 Cents the podcast. It was on Dec. 9, 2014, that the ‘pilot’ episode dropped. Huge thanks to everyone who listens as well as to Greg Mehochko for inviting me to be a part of the Jittery Monkey Podcasting Network.
The second reason I’m excited is that my co-host, Heath Hatton, and I are recapping what is the biggest night in Stride Pro Wrestling history. The AAPW Resurrection show drew a record 600+ crowd and it was all for former wrestler Dan ‘Curly’ Summers. Thank you to everyone who attended and please enjoy the podcast.

This month Kevin and Tyler continue to look back on All American Pro Wrestling and ahead to this Saturday’s Stride Pro Wrestling show. Many AAPW stars will be returning that night for Curly’s benefit. It’s at Black Diamond Harley Davidson in Marion and every cent raised that night goes to Curly, who is facing some serious health issues right now.

What a decade the 80s was. Some great pro wrestling memories were formed then, including the first Survivor Series. It went down on Thanksgiving night 1987. This week my guest co-host Scott Cross and I dissect this first annual event that is still going strong today.

As a fan who grew up watching pro wrestling in the 80s, one of my favorite pay-per-view events of all-time is the Survivor Series. The original concept has long been scrapped but for the first several years of the event, it was hard to beat.
In 1990 a twist was added. I’m not talking about the Ultimate Survivors match at the end of the night. I’m also not referring to the debut of the Undertaker. Instead, something else that night left a huge impression… the Gobbledy Gooker.
So that’s the subject of this month’s Wrestling Under the Influence. I review that awesomely bad moment in time and pair it with Leinenkugel’s Cranberry-Ginger Shandy.

It’s easy to boo the bad guys (and women) we see in the wrestling ring. But everyone who steps through those ropes has a backstory. That’s what I aim to learn more about with a new feature called The Interview.
My first subject, Garrett Turner. He’s better known as Dexter Roswell in Stride Pro Wrestling. In 2017, Garrett came out and a recent interview by One37PM with NXT signee Jake Atlas prompted me to ask Garrett to talk about his experiences coming out. I hope you enjoy the show.

The world of professional wrestling has a variety of memorable characters. One of the most memorable I’ve had the chance to work with is Curly. The man behind the gimmick, which is dedicated to the 3 Stooges is Dan Summers. Unfortunately, Dan is having some major medical issues right now.
That’s where his brothers and sisters in wrestling are stepping in. On Saturday, Dec. 7 Stride Pro Wrestling presents AAPW Ressurection. All American Pro Wrestling was at one time a huge force in southern Illinois and Curly was one of the biggest attractions on the roster.
Now, many stars from AAPW are coming together to wrestle for Stride. The show is happening at the Black Diamond Harley Davidson Warehouse and 100% of the money raised that night will be donated to Curly and his family. Get your tickets here.

It’s been 30 years since the first Halloween Havoc. WCW came up with the concept and it ended up being a successful formula for the company. Did you know Halloween Havoc had a better rating than Starrcade 6 of the 12 years they were around? One year it was a tie and five times Starrcade rated higher.
This week though, we’re focused on that first year and the build-up to the Thunderdome match between Ric Flair and Sting vs. Terry Funk and the Great Muta.

In keeping with the Halloween theme for the month of October, I decided to have a chat with current Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Red Daniels. Nearly two years ago he was involved in the company’s first (and only) Buried Alive match.
To our knowledge, WWE is the only company to do Buried Alive. There have been five such matches, dating back to 1996. If we’re incorrect in that claim, please let me know.
Red talks about the idea behind the match, the execution of it and the aftermath. It’s a great conversation. Be sure to share it with your friends!

It’s a new month and the first Monday we start it off right with 2 is Greater Than 1. This month Heath Hatton and I share our favorite moments in pro wrestling, along with some great memories of Stride Pro Wrestling.
Speaking of that, join us this Saturday night (Oct. 12) at the Stride Arena (1130 N. Division St., Carterville, IL) for Fright Night. Several great matches have been announced, including a battle royal to determine a contender for the Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight title.

When it comes to great wrestling families, I put the Von Erichs near the top of the list. I grew up in the 80s when Von Erich Mania was running wild. So did my guest co-host this week, Travis Yates (@thetravisyates on Twitter).
We stroll down memory lane and share our thoughts on this iconic family and throw in a few ‘what if’ style scenarios. It’s a great conversation and tribute to one of our all-time favorite families in wrestling.
Cheers and welcome to another edition of Wrestling Under the Influence. This month it’s a table for one as I drink ‘Me So Honey Blonde’ by Belching Beaver Brewing.
I pair this month’s beer with the ill-fated WWE (WWF) gimmick of Beaver Cleavage. It’s a quick stroll down memory lane. (Spoiler alert: the beer is better than the gimmick.)
For nearly 40 years Vincent Kennedy McMahon has been the driving force behind the WWE. Before that, of course, it was the World Wrestling Federation. In recent years though, McMahon has been criticized for his decisions related to the product. So this week we explore ‘What If… Vince Retired?’
My co-host for this month’s installment is Stride Pro Wrestling General Manager Sam Hunter. He’s a lifelong fan of pro wrestling and we share our opinions on today’s product and what we think would happen if Vince McMahon walked away from the company today.
Stride Pro Wrestling is in action this Saturday night (Sept. 14) for a fundraiser called Cashing In. It’s a fundraiser for the YouthBuild program. Get more information here.

Yes, Heath Hatton and I are the new Stride Pro Wrestling tag team champions. We beat Tony Flood and Jay Spade at Bash at the Ballpark. However, we defend our belts this Saturday, Sept. 7 at Revenge in Carterville. You can learn more here.
In this week’s episode of Two is Greater than One, Heath and I talk about the night we won the titles, why he decided to go in this direction and wrap things up with the new feature Three for the Road. So, who are your three favorite tag teams? Bonus if the Baby Oil Buddies (that’s us) is on your list. 🙂
Oh, the 80s. What a decade! It’s when my fandom got started. It’s also when my guest co-host Jason Skull from the Skullbuster WrestleCast started watching wrestling. This week he joins me for the first installment of Wrestling with the 80s.
We discuss SummerSlam 1988, the first of its kind. Besides the show, we talk about the buildup to it and what was happening with Jim Crockett Promotions at the same time.

Welcome to the debut of 2 is Greater Than 1, a monthly segment on this podcast. I will be joined on the first Monday of each month by Heath Hatton. The title of the show comes from a line he used during a handicap match against Ryback at Extreme Rules 2012. The two of us are now tag team partners in Stride Pro Wrestling as well.
We have a lot to discuss this month, including the passing of legendary wrestler Harley Race, Stride Pro Wrestling and the upcoming shows for that company.

I never turn down the chance to do an interview (whether in person or on the phone) with someone involved in pro wrestling. Such is the case with my guest this week, WWE Superstar Aleister Black. He was doing promos for the SummerSlam Heatwave Tour which made a stop in Cape Girardeau, MO. While I had Black on the phone we chatted about his character, his career and life on the road. This week’s episode is also an Ask My 1-2-3 Cents, so thanks for participating.

I started watching wrestling around age 9. It was late 1982 but not until mid-83 that I was all-in. Obviously, a lot has changed since then. I wanted to hear the perspective of a young fan today. So I enlisted Hunter Woodworth, 15, of Mt. Vernon. He’s also a Stride Pro Wrestling Superfan. We discuss WWE, AEW, indy wrestling and more this week.
Speaking of Stride Pro Wrestling, the company returns to Carterville on Saturday, Aug. 3. We also have a HUGE event planned on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Rent One Park in Marion. Learn more here.

In pro wrestling everyone wants a push. Heck, even as a ring announcer I guess I do too. However, Saturday night I got an unexpected and unwanted push from the Stride Pro Wrestling tag team champions. Listen to this week’s show, it’s a recap of the Scars ‘n Stripes event.

I don’t know if this is the best title for the show, but I do talk a lot about both companies. While I am a WWE loyalist, I am glad there is going to be something else out there for fans to choose from. And it seems AEW is keeping WWE on its toes for now.
Stride Pro Wrestling has a show Saturday, July 6 at the building in Carterville. It’s Scars & Stripes! Learn more here.
