Growing up, Kerry Von Erich was my favorite wrestler. For nostalgia purposes, he’s still on my Mount Rushmore, some 30+ years after his death.

This week on the podcast, I chatted with ‘Pondwater’ Dave, also a Von Erich superfan. He was in the crowd the day Kerry beat Ric Flair for the NWA Heavyweight title (May 6, 1984). We chat about that day, wrestling in Texas, the rest of the Von Erichs, and Ric Flair’s Last Match (which Pondwater made the three-count for).

The wrestling world is reeling after two greats died this past week. On Wednesday, WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk died at 79. Then, just a day later, fans were rocked by the sudden death of Bray Wyatt. He was just 36 years old.

This week, Chad Smart and I pay tribute to both men and share memories of each.

It’s Christmas in July, and the My 1-2-3 Cents Wrestling Figure Drive is starting early this year. There is a collection bin at Castle Perilous in Carbondale, Illinois. You can also purchase wrestling action figures and ship them to me (ask me for my address) or Venmo me, and I’ll do some shopping on your behalf.

I started this collection drive in 2018 thanks to the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast. As a result, we’ve collected hundreds of toys (I didn’t keep a good record). In memory of my mom, who died last month, I hope to collect 300 action figures this year, a record for this effort.

The My 1-2-3 Cents/Stride Pro Wrestling Action Figure Drive is back! We are entering our fifth year of collecting wrestling figures and wrestling-related toys for the Toys for Tots program. Here in southern Illinois, more than 15,000 toys were donated last year. We were able to contribute more than 250 wrestling figures to that total.

Stride Pro Wrestling continues to amaze me. This past weekend we had two great shows, leading to a big event on Saturday, September 10.
