March 5, 2016, is the date of the first Stride Pro Wrestling show. The main event that night featured a fatal four-way to crown the first-ever champion. Ax Allwardt beat three others to do just that, Heath Hatton, Tony Flood, and Frank Wyatt.
Now, the company is preparing for the fifth anniversary of that event, and we like to call it Strideiversary. It’s set for Saturday, March 13, at the Stride Building at 1130 N. Divison Street in Carterville.

On Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, the world lost an amazing wrestler and an even better person in the Mississippi Madman. I first met Madman back in 2010 as a fan. A short time later, I learned more about the man behind the character, Don Jackson.
He touched the lives of many. So this week’s show is dedicated to Madman’s memory. We’ll hear from several people who worked with Madman over the years.
If you’d like to contribute to Madman’s medical and funeral expenses, I encourage you to do so. Click this link to learn more.

It’s an updated version of episode 321, with an apology. I was pretty negative in the last go-around. For that, I’m sorry. If I hurt anyone, that was never my intent.
I decided to re-record and be more positive. I’m looking forward to a couple of ideas for the My 1-2-3 Cents brand in the coming weeks. I hope you’ll stay on board for the journey.

I’ve made plenty of friends through the world of independent wrestling and podcasting. One of them is this week’s guest, Seanan Young. Mr. 100 is the founder of Podzilla 1985, home of many great shows, including Pro Wrestling Unscripted.
He’s also a big part of Cape Championship Wrestling. We discuss his involvement there and what the future looks like during these uncertain times with COVID-19.

Full disclosure for this week’s show. I had two different guests lined up but unfortunately, things fell through at the last minute with each. So that means I had to call an audible and do something I had planned for later in the month while I’m on vacation.
Almost one year ago, I made a career change and left the world of broadcast news after 22 years. I’ve already done a show with some clips of wrestling interviews I conducted as a news anchor. Today, in an effort to spread some positivity, I’m sharing the Cameo videos my friends sent me after I made the career change.
Instead of hearing me talk about a random topic for 30 or more minutes, I decided to go this route. It’s an ego boost for me for sure. But it’s also positive content to insert into a world that right now is filled with hate and negativity.

My buddy Chad Smart from the Positive Cyncisism Podcasting Network has introduced me to all sorts of different pro wrestling companies. In 2004 when I met him, he was ordering the weekly TNA pay-per-views. Then came Chikara Pro and now we’re watching a company out of southern California; Wrestling Pro Wrestling.
This is a very unique independent company, to say the least. Characters include the Fromage Horsemen (all characters based off cheeses), Darwin Finch and ‘Gentleman’ Jervis Cottonbelly. You can check out their YouTube channel here. Pull up the March 5 show; WPW Presents Tony Tickles’ Invasion Featuring the Sneaky Snakes and watch along with us. We also sprinkle in thoughts on other wrestling companies along the way.

I’ve known Dalton Anthony for a few years now, first hearing him on the Podzilla 1985 Pro Wrestling Unscripted podcast. Then he and some of his co-hosts came to a Stride Pro Wrestling show as fans. But it wasn’t long before that fandom turned into Dalton stepping through the ropes.
He’s been wrestling in both Stride and Cape Championship Wrestling for more than a year and continues to improve. In fact, he’s now a co-holder of the Stride Pro Wrestling Tag Team Titles with Jay Spade. Expect big things from the Wrestling Buddies in the weeks and months to come.
‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith will go down as one of the all-time greats of professional wrestling. He and Dynamite Kid are still my favorite tag team of all-time. The Bulldog happens to be the all-time favorite of my co-host this week, Bo Sawyer.
Bo and I discuss our fandom for DBS as well as some of Bo’s professional wrestling career. He is the Stride Pro Wrestling No Limits Champion (and defends the title Saturday, March 14 against Dexter Roswell at Strideiversary). He’s also the TSW Heavyweight Champion. This month Kevin and Tyler continue to look back on All American Pro Wrestling and ahead to this Saturday’s Stride Pro Wrestling show. Many AAPW stars will be returning that night for Curly’s benefit. It’s at Black Diamond Harley Davidson in Marion and every cent raised that night goes to Curly, who is facing some serious health issues right now.
The 2nd annual Stride Pro Wrestling/My 1-2-3 Cents Pro Wrestling Action Figure Toy Drive is underway now. If you donate $5 or a new wrestling action figure you will be entered into a drawing for an autographed Four Horsemen poster. If you’re not in the area, you can PayPal me kevinhunsperger@gmail.com. The world of professional wrestling has a variety of memorable characters. One of the most memorable I’ve had the chance to work with is Curly. The man behind the gimmick, which is dedicated to the 3 Stooges is Dan Summers. Unfortunately, Dan is having some major medical issues right now.
That’s where his brothers and sisters in wrestling are stepping in. On Saturday, Dec. 7 Stride Pro Wrestling presents AAPW Ressurection. All American Pro Wrestling was at one time a huge force in southern Illinois and Curly was one of the biggest attractions on the roster.
Now, many stars from AAPW are coming together to wrestle for Stride. The show is happening at the Black Diamond Harley Davidson Warehouse and 100% of the money raised that night will be donated to Curly and his family. Get your tickets here.

In keeping with the Halloween theme for the month of October, I decided to have a chat with current Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Red Daniels. Nearly two years ago he was involved in the company’s first (and only) Buried Alive match.
To our knowledge, WWE is the only company to do Buried Alive. There have been five such matches, dating back to 1996. If we’re incorrect in that claim, please let me know.
Red talks about the idea behind the match, the execution of it and the aftermath. It’s a great conversation. Be sure to share it with your friends!

Speaking of that, join us this Saturday night (Oct. 12) at the Stride Arena (1130 N. Division St., Carterville, IL) for Fright Night. Several great matches have been announced, including a battle royal to determine a contender for the Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight title.

In pro wrestling everyone wants a push. Heck, even as a ring announcer I guess I do too. However, Saturday night I got an unexpected and unwanted push from the Stride Pro Wrestling tag team champions. Listen to this week’s show, it’s a recap of the Scars ‘n Stripes event.

I don’t know if this is the best title for the show, but I do talk a lot about both companies. While I am a WWE loyalist, I am glad there is going to be something else out there for fans to choose from. And it seems AEW is keeping WWE on its toes for now.

When you’re a fan of something, typically your view of whatever it may be changes once you get a peak behind the curtain. Good or bad, it’s inevitable when you know how the magic is made, you view it differently. That was my experience when I started ring announcing. And that’s the case for this week’s guest, Stride Pro Wrestling tag team champion Tony Flood. We discuss his fandom and transition into the ring.

Last year I introduced listeners to my friend, Lane Austin. At that time he was Stride Pro Wrestling’s senior official. Many times, he was the only referee on hand.
But Lane has had some health issues and that ended in a double organ transplant. For the first time since the surgery, Lane and I sat down and talked about how he’s doing, his love for wrestling and why he enjoys being a ref. Check it out!

We each share our six favorites (spoiler: mine are mostly old school based). Red also discusses his thoughts on character development and what he’s learned in his three years in the business.

It’s been an interesting start to 2019 since AEW officially announced ‘Double or Nothing.’ The speculation on the future of WWE has run rampant. This week on the show Tyler ‘Heath’ Hatton and I break it all down. Since there’s a lot of talk in tag team wrestling this week with the crowning of WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions for the first time in decades, I decided to make tag teams the topic of this week’s My 1-2-3 Cents. Indy wrestling has become a big part of my life over the past three years. I’ve been the ring announcer for Stride Pro Wrestling since March 2016. You’ve heard from several Stride wrestlers on this podcast.
That’s exactly what you’re going to hear this week too. But from the corner of the locker room. Time constraints prevented me from having more guests, but three of Stride’s top good guys took some time to chat with me. You’ll have to listen to find out who joins the show this week.

On a separate note, I’d like to thank all of you who have taken time to listen to the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast, read the blog or watch videos on YouTube and Facebook. It means the world to me. I want to wish you all a happy and healthy 2019 and look for more announcements soon!

Stride Pro Wrestling celebrated the holiday season with the show Christmas Break over the weekend. It was an action-packed event that had many twists and turns as we close out 2018. I’m already looking forward to our next show, Jan. 5, 2019.
This week on the podcast I recap the event, look ahead to the future and answer more of your questions. It’s a fun episode and it’s less than 30 minutes so you’ve got time to listen.

Last year I joined forces with my buddy Tom Harness (Harness Digital Marketing) for the #UglyChristmasSuit fundraiser. Together we raised just over $8,300 for a non-profit group here in southern Illinois called Children Home + Aid. This year we’re doing it again, but for Honor Wreaths for Veterans. Please donate here.
Tom and I discuss the fundraiser in this week’s podcast and of course tie it into the world of pro wrestling. Tom also reviews the importance of branding for all of us, not just pro wrestlers.
Other notes this week, Stride Pro Wrestling’s Christmas Break show is Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Stride Arena (1130 N. Division Street in Carterville, Illinois). Bell time is 6:30 p.m., doors open at 6. I recorded it on the road from Mt. Vernon after announcing an indy show (IWA-Productions). Road Warrior Animal Warrior was the special guest. I talk about indy wrestling, the Impact experience and Survivor Series memories on this week of Thanksgiving.
Speaking of which, it’s Black Friday week on Pro Wrestling Tees. You can shop and save starting Tuesday, Nov. 20 (through the 26th). Of course, I encourage you to shop the My 1-2-3 Cents store (there are three designs now), but really I hope you’ll buy from other stores too. Pro wrestling shirts make a great Christmas gift.
This week I’m pulling some audio from the Impact Wrestling media call. I’ve sat in on these calls a few times but have yet to figure out how to get in a question. However, I am using some of the audio from the most recent call with Taya Valkyrie. She has been going toe to toe with Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard in recent weeks.
Also on the show this week, a preview of Stride Pro Wrestling’s upcoming show. The company has a new home at 1130 N. Division Street in Carterville, Illinois. On Saturday, Nov. 10 you can see the action as Heath Hatton defends the Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Title against Chris Hargas. Bell time is 6:30 p.m. Click here for more details.
Shop the My 1-2-3 Cents shop on Pro Wrestling Tees. More designs are coming soon (I swear).
Arron Brooks is the new Stride Pro Wrestling Legacy Champion. You may remember our conversation from back in June. At that time he’d been named the number one contender to the title. Since then he captured the championship in a fantastic four-way ladder match. For that match, Brooks had himself painted (courtesy artist Mackenzie Blades) as Venom.
After the match, the online haters started rearing their ugly heads. Arron and I talk about that in this week’s podcast along with this future as the Legacy Champion.
As part of the branding of My 1-2-3 Cents, there’s a store on Pro Wrestling Tees. Please take a moment to shop. Thanks!
The number 204 means a lot to this week’s guest, ‘T-Dog’ Jerry Travelstead. He’s the superintendent and principal at Community Consolidated School District 204 in Pinckneyville, Illinois. He is also the man behind many of Stride Pro Wrestling’s fundraiser shows.
Jerry won the ‘All Out of Bubblegum’ Award during the 2017 Centy Awards. It’s because of his giving spirit and wanting to help as many people as he can. We talk about the fundraising side of indy wrestling and what he looks forward to accomplishing inside and outside the ring. You can reach out to Jerry through this site.
Until noon CST on Oct. 14 there is a sale happening on Pro Wrestling Tees. You’ll save 20% on your purchase by using the code RETAIL at checkout. Of course, I’d love for you to buy a Mondo the Monkey shirt, but supporting any of the stores is great. Shop here.
Very soon (Oct. 13) Abyss is going into the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame. Before that happens, he’s part of a big fundraiser show for Stride Pro Wrestling on Saturday, Oct. 6. The Monster faces Roger Matheus. These two have clashed before but never in a Stride ring.
That show is at Community Consolidated School Dist. 204 in Pinckneyville, Illinois. We’re raising money to build a new locker room for the school. Very penny raised that night supports the cause.
I had a chance to sit in on a conference call with Abyss and other pro wrestling journalists. I recorded a portion of the call and am sharing it with you all. Remember, he’ll be here in southern Illinois on Oct. 6. Get ticket info here.
If you’re into t-shirts, check out the My 1-2-3 Cents store on Pro Wrestling Tees. You can shop here for your Mondo the Monkey shirt. More designs are coming soon. If you have ideas for shirts, let me know. Until I sell 25, I’m limited to four designs though.

Ask My 1-2-3 Cents
This week’s episode is a #AskMy123Cents. I took to social media (late of course) and got a few questions, including who on the current WWE roster I would book against Hulk Hogan in his prime. By the title of this show, you’ve figured out it’s Braun Strowman.
I enjoy the interaction with other fans to make this show possible. Thanks to everyone who interacts on the various forms of social media. You can always reach out here or on any of the usual platforms.
Also, I’ve got a store on Pro Wrestling Tees. The monkey shirt is the only one currently available, but new designs are coming soon. Thanks to those who have already bought a shirt. Click here to shop.
This week’s show is probably a bit more ‘gloom and doom’ than I intended it to be. I’ve just been doing a lot of self-reflection on and looking at the areas of my branding that are working and not working. I’ve become complacent with the podcast and for that, I apologize.
What’s next? What do you want to hear on the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast? I don’t want people to listen out of loyalty. I want listeners who look forward to a new episode dropping each week. Be honest in your comments.
If you’re not wanting to post publicly or reveal who you are with your thoughts, you can share anonymously here.
I have a shop at Pro Wrestling Tees now. If you’re interested, you can shop here. Thanks for the support. More designs are being worked on as we speak.
All In & Starrcast weekend is a wrap. Longtime My 1-2-3 Cents supporter Jeff Holtke was there with his buddy Brenden O’Neill spent the weekend in Chicago. Jeff served as a special correspondent on the My 1-2-3 Cents Twitter page over the weekend, providing pics and recaps of the sights and sounds.
I had a chance to catch up with the two on the phone after All In and before they headed back for the final day of Starrcast. They met lots of legends and current wrestlers. You’ll hear more about their experience and their thoughts the show.
Reminder: Stride Pro Wrestling has a show coming up this Saturday, Sept. 8 as part of Carterville Free Fair. The show is at the Carterville Community Center. Bell time is 6:30 p.m.
Get your hands on a My 1-2-3 Cents T-shirt. I’ve signed on with Pro Wrestling Tees. The first is on sale now. Look for more designs soon. Shop here (and thank you to those who have already purchased.)
Since Stride Pro Wrestling’s start, a handful of people have been a part of each show. One of them is general manager Sam Hunter. He has been behind many great moments in the company’s short history. This week we talk about his passion for pro wrestling and what he has in store for Stride’s future.
I’ve been ‘Saved by the Ring Bell’ and you can too. Check out the selection of items at COLLARxELBOW. Use the promo code MY123CENTS and save 10 percent on your purchase.

After a two-month summer break, Stride Pro Wrestlingis back in full force. Saturday, August 4 saw the return of the company. The tag team titles changed hands and a new number one contender was named.
But we’re not finished there. The company heads to Eldorado High School for a benefit show for Sarah Miles-Keltner. The young mother of three is battling stage four cancer. Every penny raised that night in Eldorado goes to the family.
You can hear more about that show and a recap of Stride’s return from over the weekend in today’s podcast. Also, keep up at My 1-2-3 Cents as well as the social media pages for My 1-2-3 Cents and Stride Pro Wrestling.
Pro wrestling no doubt has had its share of memorable moments. We just recently marked the 20 year anniversary of Mick Foley being thrown off the top of the Hell in a Cell by the Undertaker. Recently another thrilling moment happened, this time on the indy wrestling scene.
Empire State Wrestling Interstate Champion Anthony Gaines was defending his title against Ace Romero. Chances are you’ve seen what happened in the match. Romero, who is about 300 pounds heavier than Gaines, hit him with a pounce that launched Gaines like I’ve never seen before. Watch it here.
Gaines and I talk all about the experience and his time training as a pro wrestler. He’s clearly a man who is dedicated to the business and I wish him nothing but the best in this crazy world of pro wrestling.

Wrestling Under the Influence
Chad Smart, the host of Positive Cynicism, was in town for the afternoon recently and I always like recording podcasts in person. So it seemed like a great time to do just that. He’s not much of a beer drinker, but I wanted to get his take on Anti-Hero by Revolution Brewing in Chicago.
If you’re new to the Wrestling Under the Influence concept, we drink a craft beer and tie it to wrestler or angle in wrestling. Here are the previous shows:
For the Anti-Hero beer we discuss a few anti-heroes in pro wrestling; including “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Roman Reigns and CM Punk. I also give a shout out to my friend in Stride Pro Wrestling, Ax Allwardt.

I’ve met a lot of amazing performers in my seven years of indy wrestling. Arron Brooks is one of them. He has come a long way from his days as AT Brooks. That evolution is part of the conversation in this week’s podcast. We talk about his wrestling fandom along with his love for comic books, Star Wars and Power Rangers.
Arron wrestles around the Midwest. He’s looking to grow his appearances. You can connect with Arron via his Facebook page.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 185: Superfan "Macho Man" Randy Savage[ 25:02 | 0.01 MB ]Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (751)
“Cream of the crop”
“Macho Man” Randy Savage is one of the all-time greats in the world of professional wrestling. I have fond memories of Savage during his run in the WWF and the build-up to him winning the championship 30 years ago.
This week on the podcast, it’s another Superfan edition. Lane Austin, Stride Pro Wrestling referee and Cape Championship Wrestling general manager, is a “Macho Man” Superfan. So I asked him about his fandom of Savage and some of his favorite memories. We chatted prior to a recent Stride Pro Wrestling event in Christopher, Illinois.

If you’ve been following along here on the podcast, you know I’m involved in a company called Stride Pro Wrestling. For more than two years I’ve been the ring announcer for the company. However, over the weekend I stepped into the ring.
I was part of the main event inside a steel cage against Roger Matheus. He is known as the Mad Viking. I really can’t tell you how honored I am to be a part of Stride and that there was enough confidence and faith in me and Roger to be the main event of the show.
Roger kicked my ass literally and figuratively. My buddy Tom Harness made the save, at least momentarily. Then he got whipped. But in the end, Cash Borden showed up. Listen to the podcast and hear how it all went down. Thanks, everyone.
I’ve been a longtime fan of pro wrestling. And I’m proud to say I’ve been involved with some of the finest independent wrestling companies in southern Illinois. I’m extremely grateful for my current role as the ring announcer in Stride Pro Wrestling.
But now I find myself once again backed into a corner and having to defend not only myself but my 12-year-old daughter. You can hear the whole story on the podcast this week. But yes, I am stepping into the ring, this time surrounded by a steel cage against Roger Matheus on Saturday, May 26 at Pinckneyville High School.

Brotherly Love
It’s another episode of Wrestling Under the Influence. This week I’m joined by my buddy Dan Turnquist and we tackle 21st Anniversary by Two Brothers Brewing Company. Full disclosure, when I looked at the can, I thought the name of the beer was two brothers and that’s why I picked it. I figured we could talk about our favorite brothers in pro wrestling.
The actual beer we drank is the 21st Anniversary. However, we did just go ahead and talk about the brothers of wrestling we like the most. Some are related by blood, others are related by a storyline. However, as we discuss wrestling, in general, is a brotherhood, so it’s all good.

What a weekend. It all started off Friday afternoon with a trip to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to interview Lou Ferrigno (you know, The Incredible Hulk). My buddy Tom Harness and I did that interview for our new show Another Round with Tom & Kevin. Lou was in town for the 13th annual Cape Comic Con.
Lou was a great guest and took time to talk with us before and after the interview. We appreciate his time and organizer, Ken Murphy, hooking us up. From there we stopped by the Broadway Biergarten for a 420 beer by Lagunitas. (It was 4/20 after all.)
Saturday we returned to Cape for the actual Comic-Con event and followed it up with Cape Championship Wrestling‘s Super Show II. Tom and I review the weekend on the way back to southern Illinois Saturday night. Check it out and also go watch that interview with Lou Ferrigno. Here’s the link. Thanks to everyone for the support.

“Hug the ones you love.”
I’m kicking off another new feature here on the My 1-2-3 Cents podcast called “Superfan”. I’ll be having conversations with fellow pro wrestling fans about their all-time favorite wrestler. The first installment is with Barry Karafa from Cape Championship Wrestling.
Barry is a HUGE “Roddy” Roddy Piper fan. The quote you see at the top of this post was handwritten by Hot Rod in a Christmas card he sent to Barry the December before Piper’s death. We talk about that card and other memorabilia Barry has honoring Piper. We also share childhood memories and how Piper influenced the world of professional wrestling. By the way, you can see more of Barry’s collection over on the My 1-2-3 Cents Instagram page.
Barry is also part of CCW. The company is in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and has their ‘WrestleMania’ event this upcoming weekend. CCW: Supershow II is part of the Cape Con weekend. You’ll see all the stars of CCW along with Legends like Dan “The Beast” Severin (former My 1-2-3 Cents podcast guest) and Tommy Dreamer. You can still get tickets to the Supershow.

Stride Pro Wrestling celebrated its two-year anniversary over the weekend. This week’s podcast is a recap of that show and a look ahead at what’s going on with Stride Pro Wrestling. I am proud to be a part of the company and the talent that is here. This company has come a long way in a short amount of time. We appreciate the support from the fans. WrestleMania is just weeks away, but before the Superstars of the WWE take to the Superdome in New Orleans, fans will gather for the fifth annual ManiaCrawl. The event is a bar crawl and fundraiser for Connor’s Cure. Connor was the little boy who died a few years ago after a valiant battle with cancer.
WWE created the foundation to help other children going through cancer. The folks behind ManiaCrawl are not affiliated with WWE but do work with Connor’s Cure. The events have raised thousands of dollars so far. If you’re in New Orleans for Mania, consider stopping by. If you’re not going to be there this year, you can still help here.

About two years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Tony Flood. He was in the main event of the first-ever Stride Pro Wrestling show. He impressed me that night, despite not walking away with the Stride Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. Flood went on to win the Legacy Championship twice but never received another shot at the big title until now. He faces his childhood buddy, Jay Spade, on Saturday, March 3 in Christopher, Illinois.
Tony and I talk about his past with Jay and his career up until this point. He’s not even 30 but already has more than a decade of experience in the ring under his belt. We also discuss his influences and why he considers this upcoming match to be the most important of his career.
I’d like to encourage you to also check out the My 1-2-3 Cents YouTube channel. Please subscribe and check out some of the videos there. I have new content going up almost daily now. Thank for the support.

Stride Pro Wrestling’s latest show No Love Lost 2 featured several great matches, including the Stride Rumble to determine a new number one contender for the heavyweight championship. General Manager Sam Hunter also announced Chris Hargas is injured and will be out for an extended period of time. That means he’s vacated the Legacy Championship. Find out what happens next with that title in this week’s episode.
The end of the night featured yours truly getting manhandled again by a Stride star. This time it was Roger Matheus who attempted to hurt me. There are more details on that on the show too. Also, we have three shows coming up in March. The 3rd, 10, and 17th we’ll be all over the region. Be sure to check out the Stride Pro Wrestling Facebook page for updates and to SEE Saturday night’s show.
