Five Heart Podcast Episode 94: Good Vibes After a Loss?

I’ll be the first to say that in college football, there’s no such thing as a moral victory.

Until there is.

What we witnessed Saturday night from Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin was nothing short of a moral victory. The offense busted its ass all game, and while there were hiccups, penalties, and errors, Big Red put up 518 yards of offense against the number-16 Badgers. And one Husker put his name in two record books.

Sophomore JD Spielman topped his own record for receiving yards in a single game, finishing with 209 yards on nine catches. The yardage was also the most that Wisconsin had ever allowed an opposing receiver to achieve on their home field.

So what does this mean for the Huskers? The defense still needs to do a better job of getting off the field and the team as a whole needs to start making better decisions that take away some of the penalties (10 for 100 yards…IN YOUR FACE, AKRON)!

So here we are, 0-5, and I have never felt better about this team as I do right now. Three losses in one week. But the team is stronger for it.

Five Heart Podcast Episode 93: Oh Boy…It’s Time to Talk Wisconsin

Beer, Brewers Baseball. Bucky freakin’ Badger.

Those are just a few of the topics Hoss and Hooch cover with Jake Kocorowski from Bucky’s 5th Quarter. Jake is a busy podcast co-host as well as an editor at B5Q. We talk about Wisconsin’s 3-1 start to the season, including the close loss to BYU. Who are some players to watch out for besides Jonathon Taylor? Where are the Badgers’ weaknesses? Do the Badgers have any weaknesses?

And as always, Jon Damn Johnston comes in to give us the latest on the winos by his house and to give his thoughts on the loss to Purdue. And BAH GAWD! The predictions this week!

Corn Nation’s Five Heart Podcast: All the O-Line Talk

It started with a simply question about the injuries to center Michael Decker and right guard Tanner Farmer. But that led into a 30-minute discussion about the offensive line.

There is only one reason this conversation could have happened. And his name is Hoss Reuter! But we had a great talk about Nebraska’s offensive line philosophy now as well as what it used to be. What approach is working in the conference and what could Nebraska do to improve that aspect of the game?

And then we talk a bit about Tanner Lee’s masterpiece of a fourth quarter at Purdue, leading the good guys to two touchdowns and a one-point win. I believe Hoss called Lee a “virtuoso.”

And Northwestern is in town for a game this week, so hopefully we have more positive to talk about than negative next week.

Corn Nation’s Five Heart Podcast Episode 39: Husker Football and Volleyball

Well, we had certainly hoped that things would have gone better for the Huskers in the last week, but we are faced with a reality that there is still work to be done (shocking, I know).

I’m thrilled to bring you a split show this week as I have two guests, two great contributors from Corn Nation, Hoss Reuter and Ty Peteranetz. The first half of the show, I’m talking Hoss all things football as we get to the meat and bones of the 38-17 loss to the Ditch Weasels last Saturday night. And we get talking about this Saturday’s night game against Ohio State, and Hoss’ “weird feeling” (don’t look at me, I told him not to over-indulge on Chipotle).

Then in the back half of the show, Ty joins me to talk about Husker women’s volleyball, and how they were steamrolling opponents until they went on the road to…you guessed it…Wisconsin. So that’s fun. 0-2 in the week to damn Wisconsin. And we talk about the evolution of the knee pads, because I was genuinely curious.

We also, and this is important, do not endorse or condone drunken spelunking. It will make sense when you listen to the show. I’m pretty sure.

And as always, WTDG!

Corn Nation’s Five Heart Podcast Episode 38: Beat the Ditch Weasels

It’s a new episode as Hoss Reuter sits across the table (a couple states away) to talk some Nebraska football.

On this episode:

  • The road win at Illinois, and Greg’s super good time.
  • Looking ahead to the Wisconsin Ditch Weasels.
  • Hoss and several other members of the Corn Nation family getting together this week.
  • Chili and cinnamon rolls and why it’s are WRONG (and why it should remind you of Wisconsin running all over Nebraska in 2014)!

  • What’s Hoss’s favorite “unsung hero” offensive scheme?

It’s a big weekend in Lincoln with a look at the past (the 1997 National Championship team being honored) and a glimpse into the possible future with some big-name recruits in attendance.

Corn Nation’s Five Heart Podcast Episode 10

Well, losing sucks. It does. And while you’d like to be able to say that a certain third-down play in overtime was the end-all, be-all reason for the Huskers’ first loss of the season, it’s not.

In Episode 10 of the Five Heart Podcast, Brian and Greg talk about missed opportunities. But what’s more important to realize are the opportunities that still lie ahead for our beloved Big Red.

Now a “mad” Nebraska team heads to the Horseshoe to face Ohio State. Can the Huskers string together four solid quarters to overcome the odds (two-touchdown underdogs) and shock the nation?

Well, to paraphrase some champions elsewhere…

“AWWWWWWWW HUSKER NATION! DON’T YOU DARE BE SOUR! CLAP FOR YOUR WORLD FAMOUS 5-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPS, AND FEEEEEEL THE

Corn Nation’s Five Heart Podcast Episode 9

Brian and Greg are back ahead of Nebraska’s trip to Madison this weekend to face the Wisconsin Badgers.

Can the Huskers invade Camp Randall and get a win? Why does the same media that puts Nebraska int he top ten bitch and moan about Nebraska being in the top ten?

Despite their flaws, this team just keeps winning. The guys talk about the upcoming opponent and what the ‘Skers can expect.

The dynamic duo (that’s probably copyrighted) branches off and has a lot of other discussion, and a corn-related pro wrestler gets mentioned from the Twitter feed.

Go Big Red!
